About

The launch by NASA of the Australis-Oscar 5 satellite in 1970 is one of Australia’s unknown success stories. Built in 1967 and launched to orbit 100,000 years, her creators were students and dreamers who believed in the impossible.

In 2016, some of the original Melbourne University students involved in the AO-5 project spoke exclusively to filmmaker Anne Johnson to create a short documentary.

It’s hoped the The Satellite will form the basis of a longer film to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of an historic international collaboration and a milestone in Australia’s involvement in space.
